Caesars Entertainment’s President of International Development Steven Tight was in Queensland recently hoping to jump-start discussions with local and state officials on the company’s prospects for operating a planned A$3 billion casino resort in Gold Coast.

Tight is reported to have met with Queensland Development Minister Cameron Dick, Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate and local tourism officials.

Last year, the Las Vegas-based gaming giant was named the likely developer of the resort ASF Consortium sought to build on Gold Coast’s Southport Spit. But Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk nixed the project, despite her government having said previously that it planned to solicit “worldwide” interest in finding a developer for it.

Speaking of Tight’s visit, a high-ranking Gold Coast official said, “We’d obviously welcome any new investment in this city. It’s a matter for state government to decide if this city gets another casino license.”
