Caesars Windsor casino in Ontario, Canada has announced it will reopen October 8 and six months of lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The casino will reopen under the province’s Stage 3 guidelines and welcome invited guests only.
Susanne Tomkins, a spokeswoman for the casino, said, “While limited, opening under these restrictions allows us to bring back a small number of employees and provides us with an opportunity to reconnect with our guests and the community.”
She added, “We are hoping this is the first step in expanding capacity and are looking forward to welcoming back more guests and employees in the near future.”
The casino will open with slots only and only 50 guests will be allowed in at any one time. The invited guests will be Caesars Rewards members who will be alerted by email and must then make a reservation. They can reserve up to two sessions per day.
Kevin Laforet, president of Caesars Windsor, said in a statement: “With an emphasis on our enhanced health and safety protocols, this initial phase of reopening provides an opportunity to recall additional team members and reconnect with our Caesars Rewards customers.” He added, “We look forward to welcoming back more of our valued guests and team members when we are able to expand our capacity on property.”
Uniform Local 444 President Dave Cassidy said it was unreasonable to limit Caesars to only 50 guests at a time. “We have 2,400 members there that are really struggling and we need to get them back to work,” he said.
Cassidy added “With the protocols that are in place and a facility that can hold 10,000 patrons, there’s no reason they can’t open with more of a percentage than just 50 people.”
The casino will open with the nearly universal protocols in place of enhanced cleaning, social distancing, masks, Plexiglass barriers and machines spaced to enable the distancing.
