California Tribe Releases EIS for Casino Resort

A tribe in Northern California, the Wilton Rancheria, has released an environmental report that details a proposal for a casino resort and 12-story hotel in the Sacramento Valley.

The Wilton Rancheria in California’s Sacramento Valley has released the draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for a casino that would be located near the city of Galt.

The casino would have 110,260 square feet of gaming space, a 12-story hotel with 302 rooms, a 360-seat buffet, retail shopping, a fitness center, spa and convention center.

The tribe is looking at three potential sites for the casino, although the preferred site is on 282 acres adjacent to Highway 99. Any of the sites would require that the Bureau of Indian Affairs take them into trust for the tribe.

Tribal Chairman Raymond Hitchcock told the Galt Herald, “It is a long, slow process, and this is just one more step to get land in the trust.”

There is a 45-day review on the 712 page document, which the BIA will file after that review period closes on February 12. A public hearing will be held on January 29.
