The Redding Rancheria of Northern California is seeking the endorsement of the Shasta County Board of Supervisors for its attempt to relocate its Win-River casino resort to off-reservation land adjacent to Interstate 5.
At the April 5 meeting, the tribe’s CEO Tracy Edwards told the supervisors “As for our project, it will include gaming space, a 250-room hotel, plenty of dining options, an event center, conference rooms, a destination resort-style swimming pool, and potentially an outdoor amphitheater and other wonderful amenities.”
Some speakers opposed to the relocation of the existing casino said they didn’t want a casino at “the gateway to the city.” They object to a casino near homes and worry that it might affect homes across the river.
The tribe really doesn’t need the approval of the supervisors. The final decision for relocating the casino lies with the federal government. However, the board has put the item on its April 19 agenda.
