Cambodia’s National Committee for Counter Trafficking (NCCT) has reached out for help from Indonesia to stop illegal iGaming operations within Cambodian borders.
The move came days after Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) said the majority of illegal iGaming operations targeting Indonesians are based in Cambodia and the Philippines.
According to the Khmer Times, the NCCT hopes Indonesia will share its intelligence on the illegal industry and the servers it’s identified within Cambodian borders.
“We asked the Indonesian authorities to share their experiences, information, and locations of illegal online gambling in Cambodia,” said Chou Bun Eng, NCCT vice chair and secretary of state of the Ministry of Interior.
“Cambodia is not a hiding place for illegal online crimes. Cambodian authorities are working to combat illegal online gambling, human trafficking, cyber-fraud, illegal detention and other crimes,” she continued.
“The Cambodian government also does not want to see all these crimes happen in its territory and we are doing a lot of work with relevant partners and foreign authorities in many countries.”
Earlier this month, according to Asia Gaming Brief, Kominfo Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said Indonesia has discovered and terminated more than 425,500 instances of gambling content on platforms being disseminated through IP addresses, file-sharing platforms and social media platforms.
Indonesians reportedly spend between US$10 billion and $22 billion annually on illegal online gambling sites, AGB reported.
