Canadian Casino Opening Delayed

The grand opening of Kamloops’ newest casino, the Cascades, has been pushed back to mid-August due to construction delays. The project of Gateway Casinos and Entertainment will replace the Lake City Casino.

The Cascades Casino in Kamloops, British Columbia, originally set to open July 29, is now slated to open August 19, according to Kamloops This Week.

Parent company Gateway Casinos and Entertainment said construction delays are behind the date change. “We want to open when it’s right,” Gateway spokeswoman Tanya Gabara said. “We want the first impression of our new property to be the best we can provide.”

The Cascades will replace Gateway’s existing Lake City Casino, also in Kamloops. The final day for that property is still set for July 19. The new $34 million casino is four times larger than the current downtown casino, and will have 330 employees.
