Casino Visits Up in Hungary

When the Hungarian government banned slot machines in pubs in 2012, it did not limit gaming; it simply shifted the activity to casinos. According to newly published data, visitors to Hungarian casinos went from 300,000 in 2012 to 810,000 in 2014 to casinos.

Patronage of Hungarian casinos has skyrocketed since the fall of 2012, when the government banned slot machines in pubs, according to a report in the Budapest Business Journal.

State Secretary András Tállai says visitation rose from 300,000 in 2012 to 639,000 in 2013 and rose again to 810,000 in 2014. From January through June 2015, visitation reached 606,000. That is due in part to the fact that five new casinos have opened in the country, for a total of eight.
