On January 2, Century Entertainment International Holdings announced that it had “mutually agreed” to terminate a deal that would have given it the right to operate gaming tables at a casino in Dara Sakor, a Cambodian special economic zone (SEZ) chiefly funded by Chinese interests.
According to the Cambodia Daily, the deal was officially ended on December 31. In a statement, Century Entertainment—a Hong Kong-based gaming investor formerly known as Amax International—confirmed that its subsidiary, Victor Mind Global (VMG), had not paid “any deposit in respect of the assignment and neither party shall make any compensation to the other.”
Lion King Entertainment Company, wholly owned by Century Entertainment Chairman and CEO Ng Man Sun, held the rights to eight tables at the casino.
Century continues to negotiate a deal to lease and operate a VIP room in Dara Sakor, working with LongBay Entertainment Co.. LongBay is a unit of the Zheng Heng Group, which has been widely accused of human trafficking and scam operations through its Long Bay development in the SEZ.
Century Entertainment once operated gaming tables at a Ng-controlled in Sihanoukville. In October 2020, it announced that it would relocate to Dara Sakor after getting a “more attractive offer.” But that five-year deal, signed in February 2023, never got off the ground due to the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and other factors.
