On December 7, the last day in the second and final term of Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, Robert Beck will leave his post as chairman of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, a position Beshear , a Democrat, appointed him to in 2008. Incoming Republican Governor Matt Bevin is expected to name his own racing commission chairman as well as replaced other commissioners.

In making his resignation announcement, Beck listed the commission’s numerous accomplishments over the past seven years, calling it a “beacon” for other racing states. “It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve with all of you,” said Beck to a standing ovation. Beshear noted, “Bob has led the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission through a difficult period, initially, when the fate of the horse industry in Kentucky was perilous. His leadership and determination are big reasons why Kentucky’s signature industry is once again flourishing.”
