The Spanish news outlet semanario tiempo recently reported the $50 million Ovalle Casino Resort in Limari, Chile will not open as expected in April. Casino Manager Juan Almagro said developers Boldt Group in association with Grup Peralada have submitted documents to the Directorate of Municipal Works and are awaiting final approvals. No date has been given for when that could occur, but developers are hoping the casino resort can open this summer.

Almagro said the structure is complete and contractors are finishing the interior design, equipment installation and the 1,200-seat amphitheater. He noted the strict permitting process requires multiple agencies to sign off on hotel rooms, restaurants, spa, meeting rooms and other aspects of the project. Then the Chilean Superintendent of Casinos, who regularly has been inspecting the resort’s progress, must give his final approval.

About 300 people have been hired in various positions so far, Almagro said. Ovalle has created 1,500 temporary and permanent jobs.
