Court: Netherlands Lottery May Continue as Monopoly

The Dutch Administrative Jurisdiction Division (court) has given the go ahead for de Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), which oversees gaming in the Netherlands, to grant a monopoly to organize state lotteries.

The court March 10 dealt with appeals of this issue in three separate rulings. Private companies including Betfair and the Dutch Online Gambling Association (NOGA) had objected to a single-permit system for creating lotteries—which led to a single commercial license being issued to Lotto BV, with many charity lottery licenses also being issued.

The court said this question had previously been decided in 2018.
