After decades of legal battles with the state of Kansas, the Wyandotte Nation will open its Crosswinds Casino in Park City on Tuesday, March 2.
The 20,000-square-foot casino will offer 500 slots and 200 Class II slots by Video Gaming Technologies, Inc. It will have 150 employees. Revenues will help fund health care, schools and housing for tribal members.
Wyandotte Tribe CEO Kelly Carpino said, “Our team is so excited to introduce Crosswinds Casino to Park City and the surrounding communities. Our focus with all of our gaming properties is to provide a fun, clean atmosphere with fan favorite slots and great customer service. Crosswinds Casino is ready to deliver that same experience to all of our guests.”
Chief Billy Friend added, “Park City has worked hard and has been successful over the years with their redevelopment plans and have welcomed us as partners.” He added, “The great thing about this project is it will not only create jobs for the area, but will bring in increased revenues through tourism, and create new opportunities for additional development.”
The tribe and state attorney general have been in court many times over the Wyandotte Nation’s authority to build a casino. Last June the Department of the Interior ruled for the tribe. The state attorney general challenged that decision in August in federal court but lost.
