Cuningham, Penta to Do Nugget’s $50 Million Remodel

Las Vegas-based contractor Penta Building has been contracted to do the $50 million renovation of John Ascuaga’s Nugget in Sparks, Nevada with Cuningham Architecture in charge of design.

Penta Building Group, with offices in Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada, has been contracted to undertake the million renovation of John Ascuaga’s Nugget in Sparks. Minneapolis-based Cuningham Group Architecture will design the extensive project.

“We have major renovation plans for the Nugget,” Nugget President and CEO Carlton Geer said in a statement. “Penta Building Group understands our vision for what we want this property to become and will work closely with the Cuningham Group and the Nugget team to create a fun-filled, entertaining and value-oriented ‘escape from the ordinary’ for locals and tourists alike.”

“We are ecstatic that we were selected to join the team that will transform this iconic property,” Bryan Richards, Penta project executive, said in a statement.

The Nugget was sold in December to Global Gaming & Hospitality, a private investment group headed by Geer and Michael Kim. The sale ended 50 years of family ownership of the Nugget; at the time, Ascuaga said the new owners “have the financial resources needed to invest in the property and allow it, and its 1,300 employees, to prosper in the years ahead.”
