Czech Republic Moves Closer to Online Gaming Bill

The Czech Republic Senate approved a bill that would open online gambling up to international operators under new legislation. The country’s President Miloš Zeman now has the bill.

The Czech Senate has approved a bill that would allow international online gambling sites from the European Union to operate in the country.

The bill goes to President Miloš Zeman for his signature.

Under the new rules, international gambling operators from the European Union and the European Economic Area would be allowed to apply for a license in the country. Currently, there are only five licensed operators providing online gambling options within the Czech Republic’s borders.

The bill, however, imposes a tax rate of 35 percent of annual gross gaming revenue for casino games. Lotteries and sports betting would be taxed at 23 percent and the standard corporate tax rate stands at 19 percent.

The legislation also includes the introduction of a national self-exclusion database that would also block bankrupt country residents and ones that receive financial assistance from the country from gambling online.
