Da Nang Cruise Ship Casinos Can Stay Open in Port

Casino cruises based in the Vietnamese city of Da Nang will soon be able to remain open after they return to port. Officials believe the relaxed rules will attract more visitors and more foreign-owned ships.

Tourism up 34 percent

Casino cruise ships based in Da Nang, Vietnam will allow foreign casino cruises to remain open after docking, according to reports.

“We have reviewed all relevant legal documents and found no rules that require foreign ships to close certain services when docking in Vietnam,” said Tran Chi Cuong, deputy director of Da Nang’s tourism department, in an interview with Tuoi Tre News.

Cuong said the restrictions will be lifted this month to help the city draw more visitors and possibly more ship operators, reported GGRAsia. “The services must be allowed to remain open to attract more ships and encourage them to stay overnight,” Cuong said.

More than 110 cruise ships are expected to dock in Da Nang’s Tien Sa Port this year, said Coung, among them vessels run by Hong Kong-based Star Cruises.

Though Vietnam has several casinos, the law forbids Vietnamese gamblers from entering unless they hold a foreign passport. They may gamble aboard the cruise ships, however.
