Deadwood Casino’s $1 Million Renovation Completed

A $1 million renovation has been completed at the recently reopened Gold Dust Casino & Hotel in Deadwood, South Dakota. The project included a new kitchen, restaurant, walls and ceilings as well as new games among the casino's 180 slots and tables. A major storm last fall delayed the scheduled reopening.

The Gold Dust Casino & Hotel in Deadwood, South Dakota recently reopened after a year-long, million renovation. The property features seven storefronts, 180 slots and six table games. Also the property’s 42-room boutique hotel, the Hotel by Gold Dust, opened in July in the historic 1902 Pineview Building across the street from the casino. The renovation also included a new kitchen, walls and ceilings. The property employs more than 100 people.

The Gold Dust also recently opened the sports bar and restaurant Maverick’s, offering a 120-seat restaurant and bar with 16 beer taps.

The Gold Dust casino had closed last fall and was expected to reopen this summer, but those plans changed due to a major storm last October. Gold Dust spokesman Peter DeMangus said, “If there was any one single factor that delayed the project, it was the massive October blizzard last year. We were just in the process of redoing the roof and that weather really hurt us. With these old buildings on Main Street, weather like that effects us on a whole new level. Plus, we had contractors who couldn’t get out of the homes they live in. That’s nature.”

DeMangus added, “I hope our guests discover something fresh, new, slick and exciting. That’s truly what it is. We’re going to be making new memories going into the future.”
