Detroit Casinos Set Revenue Record

The three casinos of Detroit, Michigan (MotorCity Casino at left) are setting records for profits. In March the aggregate of the three did better business than they have ever done since opening in 1999. They are doing even better right now due to a labor strike across the border in Canada.

Detroit Casinos Set Revenue Record

The three casinos in Detroit, Michigan set profit records in March, and two of them set individual records, according to figures released by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

Total revenue for the three casinos was $138.6 million in March, 5.7 percent higher than the same month in 2017. This is a record since the casinos opened in 1999.

The top grossing casino was the MGM Grand Detroit, which recorded $58.1 million, a 7.3 percent increase over its previous highest profit of $57.2 million in 2012.

MotorCity Casino raked in $49.3 million, which was a considerable jump over the previous record of $45.8 million in March 2013.

Jack Entertainment Greektown Casino took in $31.2 million in March, which didn’t beat its highest profit of $34.7 million in March 2013.

Despite these numbers, the three casinos’ profits for the first quarter of this year was about the same as last year, $360.2 million. This can be attributed to low numbers for the Greektown, whose first quarter earnings were 4.7 percent down over 2017.

Revenues at the three casinos are expected to maintain this good trend in April because of a labor strike across the river in Canada at Caesars Windsor. Workers went on strike April 6 and aren’t scheduled to return to work until April 18.
