Downtown Las Vegas Hotel Makeover Announced

The 40-year-old California Hotel and Casino on Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation of its 500 hotel rooms and casino, and add new dining and drinking options for patrons, owner Boyd Gaming announced. No cost estimate was provided, but Boyd Gaming said the project will be done by the end of 2016.

The California Hotel in Las Vegas will undergo a multi-million dollar upgrade, owner Boyd Gaming announced.

The 40-year-old California is the first downtown property owned by Boyd Gaming and is attached to Boyd Gaming’s Main Street Station Casino Hotel Brewery via an elevated walkway across Main Street.

“The luxurious new look and feel of the California Hotel and Casino will offer our longtime guests an elevated new experience at the property they love,” Boyd Gaming Executive Chairman Bill Boyd said. “It will also provide first-time guests a new incentive to visit the Cal, and experience our legendary Spirit of Aloha.”

The casino recently added the California Noodle House in January and intends to complete its multi-million dollar renovation of the rest of the casino by the end of 2016.

The renovation will include a complete redesign of the California’s 500 hotel rooms and suites and likely more food and beverage areas for guests and visitors, Boyd Gaming announced. No estimate on the cost was given.

Boyd Gaming is the largest owner of Downtown Las Vegas Casinos, with the California, Main Street, and the Fremont, in which Boyd Gaming opened a new bar, the Filament, in July.
