The U.K. gaming conglomerate Entain has sued the former owners of the Dutch company BetCity, the Singels family, and the family has since countersued, Focus Gaming News reported March 27.
The High Court of Justice in England and Wales will hear both cases.
Entain’s complaint argues that the Singels didn’t alert Entain to regulatory violations that led to the Netherlands gaming regulator KSA leveling a €3 million fine against BetCity. Entain argues it should have paid a lower price for the company.
The Singels, in their countersuit, claim Entain knew about the regulatory issues before it purchased BetCity. The company was informed via emails and by telephone in the fall and early winter of 2023 and in meetings many months before the deal was concluded.
The family seeks €143 million from Entain, claiming that the company made changes that resulted in the former owners getting fewer payments than had been projected.
Entain claims that those changes were necessary because BetCity was still in violation of Dutch law—even after the acquisition.
