Minnesota Vikings Hall of Fame defensive tackle John Randle recently placed the first wager at the new FanDuel Sportsbook at the August 29 opening of the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque, Iowa.
Officials hope to attract Minnesotans to the new facility, since it’s the closest to the state line, located off I-35, a 15-minute drive from Albert Lea and 112 miles from Minneapolis. Sports betting is not legal in Minnesota. Diamond Jo General Manager Scott Smith said, “We are surely your kind of place for everyone in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota.”
Currently, bettors age 21 or older are required to register in person to bet on all major U.S. sports including baseball, soccer, football, basketball, golf, boxing, motorsports racing and more. Online and mobile betting will be available in the near future, Smith said. Even then, bettors will be required to place bets within the state’s borders.
The FanDuel Sportsbook features three betting windows, five video displays including a large video wall, 11 self-service betting kiosks from IGTPlayDigital and one sports ticker.
By the way, Randle bet $93 (his jersey number) on the Twins to beat the White Sox—and won.
