FBI, Detroit Police Investigating Casino Theft

A man wearing a Loomis uniform took more than $500,000 from a Loomis armored van outside Detroit's Greektown Casino. The driver, assuming the thief was a co-worker, opened the van door at the request of the man who then took several money bags. The FBI is assisting the Detroit Police in the investigation.

The FBI has joined the search for an unarmed man who stole more than 0,000 from a Loomis armored van parked outside Greektown Casino in Detroit on a recent weekday morning. The thief, wearing a Loomis uniform and sunglasses, asked the driver to open the back of the van. Assuming the man was a Loomis colleague, the drive complied and the thief walked off with several bags of cash. The driver said the thief made no threats and displayed no weapons. No one was injured during the incident, and no getaway car was seen.

The FBI is assisting the Detroit police in the investigation, which includes questioning the driver and reviewing surveillance video from the casino’s extensive outside security system. No Loomis pickups or drops were scheduled that day.

Detroit Police Sergeant Cassandra Lewis said, “The good thing is that no one was hurt. At this point, that is the most important thing. But we will continue our investigation to ascertain who’s responsible and what happened.”
