Sands China says it plans to open its Londoner Macao in time for Chinese New Year.
Wilfred Wong, president of the Macau subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands, assigned “early February” as the target date for unveiling the themed resort, according to reports in local Chinese-language media.
Chinese New Year 2021 begins on February 12.
The Londoner is being grafted onto the gaming hotel complex formerly known as Sands Cotai Central. Its four hotels will house around 6,000 rooms and suites, it will feature a 6,000-seat arena, sizable MICE facilities, an array of restaurants and retail shopping and a casino with up to 450 table games and 2,000 machine games.
These will be gradually introduced over the course of the year, along with attractions for the masses will including a façade designed to look like the Houses of Parliament, complete with a replica of Big Ben, a virtual reality experience and various cultural icons associated with the UK capital, such as double-decker buses and a “Changing of the Guard.”
Wong said construction was almost entirely complete, with only portions of the exterior wall and entrance as yet unfinished.
The remake is part of some US$2 billion in capital investment Sands China has committed to its resort portfolio in the Chinese casino hub, which includes The Venetian/Plaza complex and The Parisian on Cotai and Sands Macao on the Macau peninsula.
