The former deputy gaming director for the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, José Carlos Figueroa, has joined Gaming Laboratories International as the company’s Caribbean government relations and business development representative.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome José Carlos Figueroa to GLI,” said Karen Sierra-Hughes, GLI’s director of Latin America and Caribbean government relations and business development. “José Carlos’s years of experience as a regulator for the PRTC will be an invaluable resource for our esteemed clients and customers in the Caribbean and throughout Latin America.”
In his new role, Figueroa will maintain relationships with GLI’s regulatory and gaming supplier clients and will grow GLI ́s business in the region. According to a statement from the company, his is experienced in gaming policy and regulatory development, gaming technology compliance and audit processes, and licensing as well as international government relations.
In his position with the PRTC, Figueroa evaluated, supervised and coordinated the activities of the Gaming Division Fiscalization Area. He also served as licensing supervisor and gaming officer overseeing the operations of the PRTC’s Enterprise and Employee License Unit, and analyzed implementation of casino internal controls and standard operating procedures. He served as a project manager for the development of gaming regulations and business intelligence applications of the Gaming Division and was the liaison between the Gaming Division and U.S. and international gaming jurisdictions.
Figueroa majored in accounting at the University of Puerto Rico, and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He also holds certifications from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in financial background investigation techniques, slot analysis, and sports betting.
