FireKeepers Provides Healthy Food Carts

Battle Creek, Michigan area schools are fighting childhood obesity with help from FireKeepers Casino Hotel, which provides carts with healthy snacks kids can eat during the school day and at home. Last year FireKeepers opened the nonprofit Fire Hub restaurant and food pantry, serving more than 8,500 families.

FireKeepers Casino recently partnered with Operation Fit, a program designed to help lower the rates of childhood obesity in the Battle Creek, Michigan area. FireKeepers provides schools with food carts stocked with healthy snacks, including fresh fruits and vegetables, that kids can eat during the day; at the end of the school day, parents can take home what’s left in the cart to use in meal preparation.

Battle Creek Community Foundation Community Initiatives Officer Angela Stewart said, “The Good Eats food carts have been a project we have been working on for a couple years. We are very excited to move this project forward. The partnership with FireKeepers Casino Hotel has been instrumental in moving this work and being able to supply children and families with healthy food. We look forward to the future of this partnership and are very excited about how this project will impact the community.”

Last year, FireKeepers opened the Fire Hub, a nonprofit restaurant and food pantry that has served more than 8,500 families in the Battle Creek area. FireKeepers also supports local charities and initiatives with in-kind donations and sponsorships.
