The NagaWorld casino complex in Cambodia shut down “immediately and voluntarily” last week after 11 employees tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. The infections were identified when some 3,000 workers were screened in the last week of February.
“The company is acting responsibly and swiftly to volunteer to temporarily suspend its business for a more thorough review of its precautionary and preventive measures already undertaken, while running in parallel a wholesome cleansing of the entire property to further protect all of its employees and visitors alike,” said NagaCorp in a statement.
NagaWorld is located in Phnom Penh. NagaCorp has an exclusive license to operate in and around the capital city.
The company added that it has “acted responsibly” and observed “the necessary precautionary and preventive measures” to guard against Covid-19, with all employees and guests required to wear masks and undergo temperature checks prior to entry.
At casino entrances, the company installed infrared body-temperature sensors “similar to the ones installed at international airports,” said NagaCorp. Hand sanitizers were “available at every corner of the casinos” and at “every gaming table,” the company added.
“Frequent scheduled disinfection is carried out for all public areas within the property. Social distancing is also practiced to ensure reasonable distancing” among all employees or visitors.
During the latest shutdown, the firm said it will “review fully and holistically all its health preventive and precautionary measures and proceed with a complete and full set of sanitization processes of its business premises.
“The company intends to open for business after achieving some milestones of success in the fight and prevention for Covid-19 after consultation with the Ministry of Health.”
