Full Speed Ahead for Manila Megaresort

Travellers International, the company behind plans for a fourth gaming super-resort at Manila’s Entertainment City, says construction on it will start this year. The $1.1 billion Bayshore City Resorts World (l.) will feature luxury Okura and Westin hotels and private residences among its attractions.

Travellers International Hotel Group says it will “jumpstart construction” this month of its US.1 billion Bayshore City Resorts World at Manila’s Entertainment City gaming district.

The PSX-listed joint venture between Philippine conglomerate Alliance Global and Genting Group subsidiary Genting Hong Kong said site development work has already started and that “Actual construction and development will start within the year” with an opening projected for the fourth quarter of 2018.

Plans call for at least 1,500 hotel rooms to be managed by the luxury Okura and Westin brands and by Genting brands Genting Grand and Crockfords Tower. The complex will also include residences and serviced apartments, retail shopping and entertainment areas among its non-gaming attractions.

In line with the accelerated timetable, Travelers also announced that it has increased its stake in the resort’s development company, Resorts World Bayshore City Inc., to 95 percent.

The resort will be the fourth of four licensed at Entertainment City, a special zone designed to boost foreign tourism to the country and provide jobs.

Travellers already operates the Philippines’ largest and top-grossing casino in Resorts World Manila located near the capital city’s international airport. The complex is also being expanded.
