Gateway Casinos & Entertainment plans to apply to the town council of Delta, British Columbia for a zoning change to allow it to build a $70 million casino at the current site of the defunct Delta Town & Country Inn.
Gateway proposes a 116-room hotel, casino with 500 slots and 24 gaming tables, dining and meeting spaces.
If the council gives preliminary approval, public hearings will be scheduled. Gateway would like to begin demolishing the site this summer and begin construction almost immediately after that for casino that would open in 2020.
In a statement Gateway committed itself to working with the community and business leaders to fit into community character as well as providing jobs and economic opportunities.
The statement added, “During our discussions throughout the community we have heard of the importance of creating new well-paying jobs in Delta while improving the entertainment and hospitality option in the community. These plans represent a significant investment for Gateway. The $70 million capital investment into the Delta economy will create substantial construction employment and provide up to 700 new jobs and careers and many auxiliary benefits to the economy.”
