Data firm Genius Sports hired Steve Bornstein to oversee North American business. Bornstein is the second former NFL exec hired in the past few weeks. He will deal with the commercial operations in the U.S. and Canada, as well as seek out potential acquisition targets, and manage the Genius Sports various league partnerships, according to Sportico.
Bornstein helped design media strategy for the NFL from 2002 to 2014. He also served in an executive role with the NFL Network. Before the NFL he spent over 20 years with ESPN and ABC.
“Steve is an accomplished, forward-thinking executive, who brings more than 30 years of sports media experience,” Genius CEO Mark Locke said in a statement. “As we continue to execute on our growth strategy in North America, we look forward to benefiting from a visionary like Steve, who played a major role in shaping the growth and success of iconic brands like ESPN and the NFL.”
In March, Genius Sports appointed former Turner president David Levy as its chairman and former NFL CFO of the COO of the NFL Network Kim Bradley-Williams to the board. Executives like Levy and Bornstein have a grasp on media but also contacts with leagues, teams, and advertisers.
