Resorts World Casino New York City and the Miami Hilton, both owned by a unit of the Malaysia-based Genting Group, have filed suit against a number of insurers seeking coverage for about US$500 million in losses incurred during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Both properties had to limit operations or completely shut down operations during the viral outbreak, and also implement new safety measures that Genting believes the insurers should cover. In the suit, Genting said the insurance companies “shirked their obligations, denied coverage and abandoned Genting and their other insureds in their hour of greatest need.”
The company also said that losses should be covered at the Queens, New York casino and the Miami resort because more than 45 employees contracted the viral strain.
