Genting Malaysia Bhd has announced it’s “putting the finishing touches” on a sprawling outdoor theme park called Genting SkyWorlds. The park, which will include 20th Century Studios-branded attractions and rides, will open sometime during the second quarter of 2020 at Genting Highlands.
The hospitality giant has invested more than US$800 million (S$1.06 billion) in SkyWorlds, according to Reuters; Lee Thiam Kit, Genting Malaysia’s head of business operations and strategies, said the group was committed to launching the park in spite of the coronavirus pandemic. “We are going to see that it opens,” he said in a virtual briefing.
Malaysia has been easing movement restrictions over the past weeks after a wave of Covid-19 infections towards the end of last year prompted a strict lockdown in January. Resorts World Genting, a property owned by Genting Malaysia, resumed operations February 16. Resorts World Genting is Malaysia’s only casino complex.
The theme park spans 26 acres and has capacity for up to 20,000 visitors.
