German Gambling Addiction Hotline Funded for Several Years

Funding has been renewed for several years for the German free gambling addiction hotline of the Federal Center for Health Education – BzgA. The funding was obtained by Germany’s gambling regulator, Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL), SBC News reported January 4.

According to the GGL, the funding was obtained from the country’s gaming industry, including the Germany slot machine industry, the German lottery, the German sports betting association DSWV, and several casino associations.

Financing for the free program is renegotiated every few years, although GGL is trying to secure permanent funding. GGL board member Benjamin Schwanke told SBC News, “Free telephone advice on gambling addiction is an important offer for those affected.”

The hotline offers confidential information and education about problem gambling, including advice on personal problems that results from gambling addiction.
