Eleven casinos operated by Great Canadian Gaming Corp. in Ontario, Canada will begin reopening September 28 as part of the province’s Stage 3 reopening protocol.
The casinos will follow provincial guidelines on limiting the number of guests to 50 and limiting games to slot machines and no table games.
Great Canadian will reopen its Casino New Brunswick on September 28. In that instance, guest capacity will be limited to 25 percent and half of the slot machines will be available to play. Many amenities will not be available at first.
Great Canadian continues to work to complete preparations to reopen its two Nova Scotia casinos, although a date has not yet been set. Its British Columbia casinos remain closed.
Great Canadian CEO Rod Baker, said in a statement, “I’m pleased we are able to safely reopen our facilities in Ontario and New Brunswick, allowing us to bring back to work team members in each province,” adding that gaming revenues would be substantially reduced. “The reductions will be especially significant for our Ontario properties where, due to the 50-guest maximum restriction, we expect no material financial benefit to the Company from our 11 Ontario locations.”
Municipalities such as the Town of Gananoque, the Township of the Leeds and the Thousand Islands, and the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville are all highly dependent on revenue from local casinos.
