In an effort to reduce problem gambling associated with iGaming, lawmakers in Greece have passed laws limiting online game time and the advertising of gambling services.
Games that utilize random number generators will now be subject to a time limit of three seconds between spins and will also no longer be allowed to be advertised in places other than the website of the operator. In addition, consumers are limited in how much they can wager per spin, with the maximum bet set at €2, and how much they can win in a single session: €5,000 (US$5,942). The reforms specifically target online slots, according to iGamingBusiness.com.
In addition to the new online rules, there will also be a cap on the maximum amount consumers can win from any one session of casino games. This limit will be set at €70,000.
New regulations will allow operators to continue to market their games on social media, provided they can ensure the ads will only be seen by those who are over the age of 21. Ads cannot ignore the possible negative repercussions of gambling, and cannot tout the industry as a tax-generator for the government.
