Kim Griffin recently took over as chairman of the North Carolina Education Lottery Commission. A real estate company executive in Durham, Griffin was named to the board by Governor Pat McCrory after commissioner A. J. Daoud stepped down to run for secretary of state. In addition, McCrory appointed Griffin chairman, replacing Keith Ballentine who remains on the board. Ballentine, who had been appointed to the board on the recommendation of then-House Speaker Thom Tillis, had served as chairman since 2013.
In his first duties as chairman, Griffin presided over a meeting in which commissioners selected vendors to operate and print tickets for the lottery for the foreseeable future.
