The five-year-old Gun Lake Casino in Wayland, Michigan, will undergo its first expansion, the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians announced.
Work already has begun on the expansion, which will add a 300-seat buffet, more gaming space to the casino floor, and make the casino’s Stage 131 lounge larger. Employee break areas and locker rooms also will be reworked and expanded.
The tribe expects work to be completed in 2017.
“We are thrilled to announce the addition of more gaming, entertainment and dining options here at Gun Lake Casino,” Gun Lake Tribal Gaming Authority Board Vice-Chairman Ed Pigeon said.
“Guest experience is our number-one priority, which is why our expansion will focus on our core entertainment offerings.”
MPM Enterprises manages the casino for the tribe, which had to win a U.S. Supreme Court case, with a legislative assist by Congress, to open the casino in 2011.
The casino is located between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo near Exit 61 on U.S. 131. The route is popular for weekend vacationers coming from Chicago and other communities in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and lower Michigan, and heading to cabins, campgrounds, resorts, and other destinations in Michigan’s north woods during the spring and summer, and again during fall color and hunting seasons.
