Guyana President Wants Law Changed

In Guyana, only three gaming licenses are allowed in each administrative region. President Donald Ramotar (l.) wants that law amended to allow any hotel that meets certain requirements to receive a casino license.

Guyana President Donald Ramotar recently said he would like nation’s gambling laws to be amended, so all hotels in each administrative region that met the criteria for a gaming license could receive one. Currently only three hotels per region are allowed to have a gaming license.

“In fact I would like to amend the law that anyone building hotels of that size and that nature should have a casino license,” Ramotar said.

He made his comments because the Sun and Sands Hotel is building a hotel similar to the Marriott Hotel; both have casino licenses, as well as the Princess Hotel on the East Bank Demerara, fulfilling the quota for Region Four. The new hotel under construction would be the fourth to have a gaming license, which currently is not allowed.
