Guyanese Casino License Revoked

In 2014, ground was broken for a planned $54 million, five-star casino resort in Liliendaal, Guyana. Almost two years later, a license granted to the Sun and Sands Casino has been revoked for “inactivity,” according to local media.

Former Guyanese President Donald Ramotar has officially revoked a casino license granted to Indian developers of the planned US million Sun and Sands Casino in Liliendaal, two years after the groundbreaking ceremony. The cause was “inactivity,” reports the Stabroek News.

The planned five-star property broke ground in April 2014, but construction never commenced, and the developer, an affiliate of Sun and Sand Mining Resources, did nothing to push the development forward, and even failed to file the right paperwork. “I explained to them that since they had not met or even begun the requirements of what was needed for such a license, they could not get it,” said Ramotar.
