Have iGaming Revenues in Italy Peaked?

Online gaming revenues shot up when casinos closed in various jurisdictions worldwide. Now, they may have peaked as casinos reopen.

It’s true in Italy, hard-hit by Covid-19 earlier this year. Brick-and-mortar casino revenues increased in August, while online gaming revenues leveled off.

Italian gaming regulator Agenzia Dogane Monopoli revealed that iGaming’s July revenues were the lowest since February, right before Covid hit the country hard.

Online casino revenue grew in August by 2.0 percent to €94.8 million ($110,642,502) but this was still a 41.4 percent increase over the year before.

PokerStars was the market leader in Italy, with 12.4 percent of the market, followed by Sisal (8.2 percent) and Lottomatica (7.8 percent.)

The largest decline was a 27.2 percent drop in sports betting vertical (i.e. multiple placings) from July to August.
