For the second consecutive month, Ohio’s four casinos and seven racinos set a new gambling revenue in August, at $172.1 million, a 4.7 percent increase or $7.7 million more than August 2019. About one-third goes to the state for fees and taxes.
Revenue records have been set in each of the four full months the venues have been open. Due to Covid-19, they were open for part of the months of March and June and closed completely in April and May. Because of those closures, revenue is down through August at $840.6 million, a drop from $1.3 billion compared to the same period in 2019.
Hollywood Casino Toledo led the others in August revenue for the second consecutive month, at $22.9 million. In Cleveland market, revenue increased 1.3 percent. JACK Thistledown Racinos posted a gain of 15.4 percent to $14.1 million and JACK Cleveland Casino was up 1.4 percent at $18.2 million, of which $8.5 million derived from table games—accounting for more than one-third of table-game revenue statewide.
