Horseshoe Baltimore Sued Over Minority Participation

Horseshoe Casino Baltimore is being sued by a consortium of minority vendors and clergy groups fore allegedly failing to meet requirements for minority participation in construction.

A group of minority businesses and clergy is suing the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore for an alleged failure to meet agreed-upon minority-business participation requirements in the construction of the property, which opened in August 2014.

The project received federal housing funds earmarked for promoting minority participation in construction of the casino. According to Baltimore’s Daily Record, the complaint was filed by Celestial Concrete Inc., the Maryland Business Clergy Partnership and an unnamed individual. The lawsuit claims that the city of Baltimore fraudulently received the housing funds, meant to provide contracting opportunities for minority businesses and draining and employment for low-income Baltimore residents.

In a statement, Horseshoe Casino said it “vehemently denies” the plaintiffs’ claims.
