Horseshoe to Offer Race Book

Horseshoe Casino Baltimore will become the first Maryland casino to offer wagering on horse races, with equipment to be installed in time for the Kentucky Derby.

Horseshoe Casino Baltimore is planning the first race book in a Maryland casino. According to officials, betting equipment was to be installed in time for last weekend’s Kentucky Derby, and the Preakness on May 16.

Horseshoe General Manager Chad Barnhill advised the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission of the addition at the regulators’ monthly meeting on April 23. “It is not an item subject to our regulatory oversight,” said Charles LaBoy after the meeting, in an interview with the Baltimore Sun. “However, it is in the casino, so we did our own level of due diligence. It was also something they worked out with the racing commission.”

The betting space will be on th3e first floor, and will offer carrels and TV monitors for bettors. There will be two self-betting terminals, with a teller for the big races like the Preakness.
