Gun Lake Casino in Wayland, Michigan has announced the appointment of Josef Huber as the property’s new executive chef, effective immediately. Chef Huber joins Gun Lake Casino with over 40 years of culinary experience at restaurants across the world.
Huber started his career at the age of sixteen as an apprentice at the five-star Elisabeth Park in his homeland of Salzburg, Austria. From there, he worked at many premier establishments, including the Imperial and Bristol Hotel in Vienna, the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino in South Africa, Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in San Francisco.
Most recently, Huber was corporate executive chef of the Amway Hotel Corp., which includes the historic Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, JW Marriot, and Courtyard by Marriot in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Huber was presented with the first-ever and only AAA Five Diamond restaurant award in Michigan and later a AAA Four Diamond award as well.

As executive chef, Huber assumes responsibility for operations and oversight of the culinary direction at Gun Lake Casino. He will hold an intrinsic role in the development and creation of menus at all existing restaurants and lead the reveal of Gun Lake Casino’s dining expansion, scheduled to open in 2021.
