Hughes: GLI Testing Up for Online Gaming

Ian Hughes (l.), VP of global services for Gaming Laboratories International, says the company’s testing of compliance systems and services for online gaming is on the rise.

Gaming Laboratories International, the leading company testing and certifying products and systems for the gaming industry, has incorporated online gaming compliance testing services as an important part of GLI’s testing work, according to Ian Hughes, the company’s vice president of global services.

“We started testing here in Macau 10 years ago,” Hughes told GGRAsia at the recent G2E Asia trade show, “and nearly 100 percent of our work was terrestrial games. We did iGaming out of our European office, but we did no iGaming out of Asia. Now, about 50 percent of our regional work here in Macau is iGaming.”

GLI opened its first Asian gaming testing facility in Macau in 2006, expanding it to a full-service testing lab in 2009.

“Online is a significant part of the work we currently do in Macau,” Hughes told GGRAsia. “A lot of the largest manufacturers are also working on the online business, either directly or by licensing their content to somebody else.”
