Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) officials said they received hundreds of sports betting kiosk applications from restaurants, bars, grocery stores and bowling alleys.
The deadline for submitting applications was August 15 in order to be eligible to turn on the kiosks on January 1, 2023, the state’s universal sports betting start date. Businesses that applied on or after August 16 will not be guaranteed they can plug in a kiosk on January 1 if they receive a license.
Most of the businesses that applied for a sports betting kiosk are bars and restaurants. Several grocery stores also submitted applications, including 42 from Kroger, 11 from Giant Eagle and nine from Acme Fresh Market. All were included in the 1,254 locations that were pre-qualified to receive sports betting kiosk licenses by the Ohio Lottery.
Customers will be limited to betting a maximum of $700 a week at sports betting kiosks.
