Illegal Gambling Targeted in Toronto

Canadian Mounties led a combined task force in a raid on several cafes and a private residence in Toronto last week that seized more than 50 slots that authorities said were being used to aid organized crime.

Almost a dozen cafes and one home in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Canada were raided last week and more than 50 slot machines were seized by a joint strike force led by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police ad including Toronto Police and regional police, all in a combined operation dubbed Project OEIDER.

A spokesman for the RCMP said that the machines seized “are video gaming machines that function like slot machines.” He said that the machines were being used to fund organized crime.
