In Six Weeks, Kentucky Bettors Wagered $250 Million

Rather good figures for just six weeks work. Equally impressive $232 million came through mobile sources in under a month. Governor Andy Beshear (l.) is pleased as punch.

In Six Weeks, Kentucky Bettors Wagered $250 Million

Legalized sports betting in Kentucky harks back little more than six weeks. And that’s retail. The mobile variety has been taking wagers for about a month, give or take a day or two.

Not much to build a history on. But don’t tell that to cheerleaders in government. Governor Andy Beshear took the time to unveil numbers. Bettors forked over almost $250 million and created just about 500,000 mobile applications, he told WEHT.

Of the $250 million, bettors spent $15.7 million in licensed retail sportsbooks since opening day September 7. Mobile wagers accounted for more than $232.3 million from September 28.

“Kentucky is approaching $250 million wagered,” Beshear told WEHT. “That is a strong number that certainly reflects excitement for the opening of sports wagering. This is a win-win for Kentuckians, who can enjoy a quality entertainment experience and benefit from funds staying right here in our state.”
