India’s sole casino operator, Mumbai-based Delta Corporation Limited, reports that its third-quarter income rose 45.8% over last year, to reach .56 million.
A filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange indicated that the company’s net profits after taxes was INR322.5 million, 680 percent over the previous year. No explanation for the jump has been offered.
Delta operates the floating casinos Deltin Royale, Deltin Jaqk and Deltin Caravela casinos in Goa. It is controlled by entrepreneur Jaydev Mody, who announced in July that he has reached an agreement to operate in Sikkim, one of the few Indian regions that allow gambling. The company will operate within the Denzong Regency Hotel in Gangtok, capitol of Sikkim, a small state in the Himalayan Mountains, bordering Nepal.
