Indiana Tropicana Breaks Ground For Land Move

Tropicana Casino of Evansville recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new $50 million, 45,000 square foot casino. It's the first riverboat to move ashore since the Indiana legislature approved a measure allowing the state's 10 riverboats to build venues on land. Tropicana hired Kentucky-based Encompass to manage the project.

Ground has been broken for Tropicana Evansville’s move from a riverboat to a million, 45,000 square foot facility, offering gaming, dining options and entertainment areas. Tropicana Evansville will be the first operator to move ashore since legislators in 2015 approved a law allowing Indiana’s 10 riverboat casinos to build land-based venues near their current location.

Tropicana hired Encompass Develop, Design and Construct of Kentucky to manage the project. Encompass specializes in project management and architecture and has worked with Caesars Entertainment, Churchill Downs Inc. and Pinnacle Entertainment.

Encompass Owner and President John Stewart said the company is proud to partner with Tropicana Entertainment in “this bold step to be the first riverboat casino in Indiana to move to land. The company looks forward to contributing our expertise and watching as the new project has a positive impact on the tourism as well as local economy of the region.”
