International Poker Network to Close

The International Poker Network, one of the longest running online poker networks, has announced it will close after 10 years. Also known as Boss Media, the network is to close by the second quarter of this year.

Time has run out for the International Poker Network, which has announced it will close in the next few months after more than 10 years in the online gaming industry.

Also known as Boss Media, the company announced it will said it plans to cease operations by the second quarter of 2014.

Boss Media was launched in 1996 and—after licensing its software to customers—became the Internet Gaming Network. At its peak, the company had more than 2,500 cash game players spread out across 30 skins, and was ranked the sixth biggest network or poker website on the planet, according to OnlinePoker.net.

The network, however, failed to keep up with competitors and its software became dated and slow, according to analysts. The network steadily lost player traffic and many of its rooms, such as Fortune Poker, have already shut. The network has only 15 rooms still operating.

According to OnlinePoker.net, IPN customers should be able to withdraw their online funds as the network’s parent company, GTECH, is a major provider in the regulated online gaming market and is seen as financially stable.

The company has apparently decided to shift its attention to its country-specific regulated platforms, such as Svenska Spel, Canadian Poker Network, Poker Club Italia and Spain Poker Network.
