Marco Teng has been appointed chairman of Saipan casino operator Imperial Pacific International. Teng assumed the position on January 10, succeeding U.S. casino veteran Mark Brown, who announced in December that he would resign, return to the United States and pursue other projects close to his family.
The company has also appointed Henry Cheang as CEO, replacing Kwong Yui Ling.
According to IPI, Teng has more than 12 years of human resource management experience and “profound HR gaming industry knowledge, with extensive casino-resort opening experience.” He previously held senior HR roles at Sands Macao, the Venetian and Galaxy Entertainment Group. Henry Cheang is also a Macau veteran and helped to open Galaxy Macau, Altira and MGM Macau.
In related news, IPI says it’s on schedule to complete construction of 250 new rooms by August. The company has signed an agreement with a U.S. construction company based on Guam, Pacific Rim, to complete the project following the departure of MCC International last year.
Work on the resort stalled when MCC was discovered to have used more than 100 illegal Chinese workers on site, reported CalvinAyre.com.
“IPI construction management and Pacific Rim construction management are trying to work together to figure out our plan to finish construction,” IPI’s Alex Poon told the Commonwealth Casino Commission.
“We just want to see this thing move forward,” CCC Chairman Joseph Reyes replied. “I’ve seen some of these areas. You are still on the second floor. I want you guys to be transparent.”
Poon said, “I hear loud and clear the frustrations of everybody—from the public, from the CCC, from my own company. Nobody wants to see the building like that. It’s an eyesore. We need time and we need to execute our contract so we can move on.”
The Saipan Tribune reports that IPI and Pacific Rim are now putting together a legal work force.
